QUALIFICATIONS REFORM
Skills Ministers are seeking to improve the qualifications system to better support the different users of VET and their diverse needs, and create a system which consistently seeks to maximise the outcomes for learners and industry. Skills and Workforce Ministers established a Qualification Reform Design Group to progress this Qualification Reform.
Demonstration Project
Jobs and Skills Councils (JSCs) have been asked to road-test a proposed new approach to qualification design that recognises the different purposes for which qualifications are utilised. As part of this work, some JSCs are undertaking projects to demonstrate how the frame model would work in practice. The purpose-driven approach will be used to consider how best to align the future skills needs of non-trade technology-based training in manufacturing. Currently, these skills are covered by the Manufacturing Technology qualifications in the MSA07 Manufacturing Training Package. The primary focus of this project is four qualifications
- MSA30208 Certificate III in Manufacturing Technology
- MSA30208 Certificate IV in Manufacturing Technology
- MSA50108 Diploma of Manufacturing Technology
- MSA60108 Advanced Diploma of Manufacturing Technology.
The key deliverable will be a conceptual approach on how the MSA07 Manufacturing Training Package, and the four focus qualifications, may be removed from the system, including any barriers and/or risks. This activity presents an opportunity to explore the rationalisation of training products across manufacturing, enabling more efficient pathways to these occupations in the manufacturing industry. Findings will be reported back to DEWR in September 2024.
