2025 WORKFORCE PLAN CONSULTATIONS

Shaping the future of Australia’s manufacturing workforce

The Manufacturing Industry Skills Alliance is developing the 2025 Manufacturing Workforce Plan—a practical, future-focused roadmap that delivers actionable solutions to equip industry with the  future capacity, skills and workforce it needs to thrive.

The plan will examine the major forces shaping the manufacturing industry and their implications for potential growth areas, new and changing job roles and evolving skill requirements.

It will also explore how manufacturing can support national priorities, including:

  • clean manufacturing and Australia’s net zero targets;
  • circularity and the closed loop economy;
  • technological and digital transformation needed for manufacturers to maintain a competitive edge; and
  • supply chain vulnerabilities and sovereign capability.
Thank you to everyone who shared their insights on emerging skill needs, workforce challenges, and how workforce needs are changing in response to national priorities. This feedback will directly influence the 2025 Manufacturing Workforce Plan, ensuring it delivers practical, industry-led solutions that drive innovation and strengthen industry’s capacity to adapt to emerging trends.
