Manufacturing Alliance Unions welcome new Buy Australian initiatives

Manufacturing workers will welcome today’s Federal Government Buy Australian announcements because they provides assurances that Australian manufacturing will get better access to government and private sector opportunities, the leaders of the Manufacturing Alliance unions said today.


” This is a good commonsense announcement and a win for Australian workers, a win for Australian business and a win for the Australian community,” Paul Howes, AWU National Secretary said today.

Manufacturing Alliance pleased with procurement announcement

” It ensures that our manufacturing industries in this country have a viable and strong future as they access new opportunities available from the Federal Government’s infrastructure spending.”

Dave Oliver, the AMWU National Secretary said: ” The Manufacturing Alliance is pleased with the industry procurement announcement made today by Rudd Government Ministers.

A good news story for manufacturing union members

” These announcements will provide good opportunities for our unions to work with our industries to maximize jobs in both the domestic and export manufacturing sectors,” Dave Oliver, AMWU National Secretary said.

This is a good news story in respect of manufacturing jobs.

” The Federal Government has listened to what the Manufacturing Alliance has been asking for in respect of opportunities to maximize local content. This is good news for manufacturing workers around the country.”

Manufacturing Alliance represents over 250,000 union members

The Australian Workers’ Union (AWU) and the Australian Manufacturing Workers’ Union (AMWU) represent over 250,000 workers and have members in almost every town in Australia.

AWU National Secretary Paul Howes and AMWU National Secretary Dave Oliver formed The Manufacturing Alliance with the intention of ensuring that the manufacturing industry’s interests were heard at all government levels.
